Cutoff switch to ignition

My wife's purse was stolen this weekend and all of our keys were in it. To be on the safe side of things I am wanting to put in a toggle switch or something similar that we can engage/disengage to make it harder to steal. Anyone ever done something like this? Which wire would be easiest to gain access to? My main concern is if it were to be accidently switched off while driving. Is there a wire that I can put this toggle switch on that will only affect starting the car, but not matter if it were accidently turned off during driving? Appreciate the help. Chris

I have seen switches that can be added under the hood to disable the fuel pump...

Yea that would be a good approach . You can also like pull the fuse to the fuel pump whenever you leave the vehicle

change the ignition lock cylinder? their not that hard to do

if you want toput in a switch, jut pull off the steering lock halves and find the wires going to the lock cylider, they should be about 14gauge wire, and put the switch on the yellow wire, this is the wire that supplies 12 volts to the starter when you crank the ignition only.

I've also seen switches you mount under the hook that you can disconnect the battery with. On the downside though, youu'd never be able to keep the clock, radio station, etc. saved.

Pulling the right fuse would be a good temporary idea, and changing the ignition switch would be the best.

thanks, so the yellow wire (ignition wire) is hot only when I turn the key? So by putting in a switch on that wire I can disable the ignition and if it were accidently turned off while driving it wouldn't hurt anything. So the easiest way to access this wire is behind the dash around the steering column? If so, that sounds like the route I'm going to take. Thanks again, Chris
