Lifting my 1988 1500 with a both lift

I plan on putting a 4 inch body lift on my 88 Chevy 1500. I was wondering what all is needed to go with this? I hear different things like certain things are only needed for "suspension lifts". Also, how reliable is putting wheel spacers with a lift? How far with the spacers can I go?
