Tailgate support Cables

Just noticed on my new 2016 Z71 LTZ that when the tailgate is down the left cable is supporting all the weight. The passenger side one is loose and supporting nothing. Even with an 80 lb bag of concrete on the tailgate on that side it still is loose. Adding a second bag it just starts to have tension on the cable... As best i can measure both cables are the same length, at least within 1/8". Anyone else have this issue??

Yes, every truck is the same way to some degree. With no weight applied, only one cable holds up the gate. Once there is weight on the tailgate, both cables are in tension. There are other discussions about tailgate cables if you search for them.
