boring the throttlebody

can you bore out your factory throttle body for a 2001 chevy silverado with the 5.3. and how much would i want to bore it out to. if i can can bore it out can somebody please tell me of somebody that can do it for me and how much. and were can i find parts for boring it out like a new butterfly valve and things like that. any info please.

and also what would it harm if i cut my catlyic converters off and hooked up some 02 elimators

I don't know about Boring out your throttle body, but I guess it could be done... I'm sure you could remove it and port/polish it for better airflow.

maybe but would that be hard to do and who would do it. has any body on this forum do it. does anybody know what size of hole it is i have heard its like 40mm. but i don't know.

You will most likely do your performance more harm than good without other serious mods.

well i have a k&n drop in filter and i have y off duals will this help any. i am thinking about a cam or something. also i am going to put a spacer on it.

Granatelli probably has something for it but I'd wait until the engine got heads/cam and needed more flow.

I wouldn't mess with the tb. It not like harley heads where many people do it. There is trial and error, sometimes you can lose performance. BBK makes 80mm tb's w/o worrying about matching up a new plate and the quality of the work. Somebody said in another forum that the 02 fakes will damage an engine, but we were waiting to hear why they thought so.

for the 02 fakes, they sale them at http://www.jegs.com

they say in the description that modifying an exhaust with a catback or free flowing cats will make some late model trucks light up due to tough obdII specs. Many of the people at the other forum say they won't hurt the engine. Only 1 guy posted "if you want to wreck your engine...fine" but he hasn't replied yet.

thats the program which these new trucks use. I think it stands for onboard diagnostics 2. It's the computer that makes your service engine soon light come on or some people have an 02 light that comes on. On these new vehicles, the range at which the computer thinks the engine is ok is a lot tighter compared to older vehicles because of emission standards getting stricter. I found out some more from another guy on "wrecking your engine". He said "your post sensors only check the emissions where your presensors regulate the computer for adjustments. The simulators are for the post sensors only. How would this destroy your motor?" The major concensus on the other forum is that these are safe, but don't let the stealer know you have them in...ie take them out before going in for service work, or they might deny service.

yep, i just did a search and that's what it stands for. Version 2 came out in 1994. It's the port that dealers plug into to diagnose and the same port you plug your hypertech into to reprogram the computer.
