Which plow for 2014 Silverado 2500 LT Z71?

Looking at purchasing a plow for my soon to be purchased 2014 2500. It's the crew cab with the Z71 package and I'll be towing a private road that's about a quarter mile long and my driveway. The road is gravel and there is a pretty decent hill. I was thinking of adding an 8" Fisher but I'm open to any and all suggestions. This is all new to me so if you could include pricing or give an estimate of what a full install would run me that would be helpful too.

I've had Meyer, Western, Snoway, and Boss plows. I liked the Snoway best then Boss. I've always liked plows with a direct linkage lift like Boss or Snoway rather than a lift chain. The plow doesn't bounce up and down over railroad tracks, dips in the road, etc. Plus (at least with Snoway) you can get down-pressure hydraulics that help a bit with back dragging. I also like a poly mold board (or stainless) to avoid rust.

If you're buying new, expect to spend somewhere north of $5,000+ for a good plow with lights, shoes and a deflector.

All of those choices work. Here is another. It does quite well on gravel, as it leaves the gravel where it should stay, and there is no risk of scalping lawn and such. I use this plow on my 800' gravel drive and even on the gravel road to cut a path to the highway that is 1.5 miles away. Plain, simple, easy. 7' and 8' versions.

The gravel will be issues with the bottom trip edge on the Fisher, I would go western with shoes on. Used to plow commercial and residential for years, western was best all around.

the brand barely matters. All plows have a curved moldboard that push snow. look at the methods of attachment and truckside mounts and decide what you like best. You do want service available nearby though, so start with searching for your local dealers first.

 

I chose Western because I like the removable receivers. nothing hangs below my airdam in summer. GM trucks sit really low and the boss and hiniker frames will hit on curbs and parking stops.

 

You could get a V plow if you want to spend more money, but for a short road and driveway a straight blade will do the job. don't buy a flimsy plow for a 3/4 ton truck though. You will wreck the plow.

 

As GB13SierraSLE said, you will be spending at least $5k -6k or more for a new plow installed. mine was just over $5k on a half ton.

I bought a new 8' Fisher commercial in 2005.

It is now riding on its 5th truck.

new frame plates and pump brackets as required, but chassis's do change

 

Nothing but a Fisher for me.

Went out Sunday after a overnight snow and cleared out 800' of gravel drive, around out buildings and barn, with the Snowsport HD plow setup I have on my 2500. Did a fantastic job. Can go right across lawn areas and not scalp the ground. Leaves gravel right where it should stay. Wife did half the job so she could get up to speed on how to do it. She loved it. The winch setup I installed on the blade to lift when needed worked out great. Most times, just left the blade down and let it disengage as it was supposed to when backing up for another push. Simple, elegant, effective and a good value. Many of the piles ended up higher than the hood of the pickup. Flimsy, this blade is not. May look like a lame setup compared to some other plows, but it is easier to use and does a stellar job. Very turf and gravel friendly. Extremely glad I did this setup. Not bad for a $1300 plow. No addition lights needed, no shoes on blade required, simple put together, easy to install and remove.
