Brandon Weeks Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 Okay i have a wrecked 2003 chevy 1500 everything on truck is good except the body the motor trans drive train everything is still in good condition. Has the 5.3 vortex. I also have a 1999 chevy 2500 it had a 5.3 in it too. my plan is to swap motor from my wrecked truck to me 99. What problems will i run into with that if any? and can i pull wires from my 2003 and wire up in the 99 ( like the wires under dash) and can i use wire harness for motor. IM really wanting to replace everything under the hood of my 99 with the stuff under the hood of the 2003. I guess my main question is what problems am i going to run into.
Full Lock Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 The 5.3 should drop right in but since '99 was the first year for the NBS, not sure if there will be any differences in wiring or something else goofy. I'll let someone chime in on that..... (Chris) If it were me a lq4 would be going in there and the '03 would be parted out
anumber1 Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 The wiring is going to be completely different. The motor will swap right in but to actually use the drive by wire throttle body and 03 BCM would be a huge undertaking (like disassembling the entire truck to swap the wiring harnesses). Swap in the '03 motor, run the '99 cable operated throttle body/IAC in my humble opinion.
