TeddyBear460 Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Sorry if this is a common thing that comes up but I've not been able to find anything about it yet. I've got a 2016 Sierra with the factory backup camera. I'm buying a travel trailer and had thought about getting one of those wireless backup cameras to assist with backing in lots, driveway etc. I'm wondering if there was a way that I could tie an additional camera into the radio for the trailer so it comes on instead of the one on the tailgate. I don't plan on pulling the trailer around more than a few times a year but I'd rather not have an extra monitor to worry about finding when I'm ready to back up. Thanks!!
mjcvette Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 GM has a "certified" after market product from Echomaster that would solve your problem and then some. Pretty nice unit that adds up to 4 cameras and activates them automatically with reverse or a turn signal and displays in the factory head display. Only problem is they are about $900 plus install if you can't do it yourself. Query any of the part numbers below to read about what this thing does/how it works. There are some other aftermarket units but this is best integrated if money isn't an issue (looks like it's about 2x the non-integrated ones). Good luck. aeblank Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 I'm eventually going to be in the same boat. While I'd love to get the actual GM system, the price is notable. I plan to get a GM Lockpick, which adds additional camera inputs. That, with a reasonable camera (amazon!) and some wiring....... It'll just be one more plug to connect when connecting the trailer. For the cost of the camera ($10-$60), you can put one or two on every trailer.
tenscourts Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 From what I saw the GM2 lockpick only supports Silverados through 2014. MVI is offering a way to add a front camera but I'm sure could just as easily be setup for a trailer camera. They also offer an AV module that offers multiple camera inputs. aeblank Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 From what I saw the GM2 lockpick only supports Silverados through 2014. Mine's a 2014. I should have clarified. I thought I heard that it worked in '15s, but I'm not positive.
TeddyBear460 Posted August 27, 2016 Author Posted August 27, 2016 Thank you everyone! I will be researching these to see if they are viable options or not.
