GMC Buyback

As some of you guys know, my wife and I bought our 2014 CPO Sierra exactly one year ago. We have had nothing but issues with the truck and frankly, also with the dealerships breaking more things trying to fix the original problem. It has been in the dealer approximately 60 days if not more over the last year.

We have contacted GMC customer assistance and they were absolutely no help. Our CPO warranty is up in 2,000 miles so we have decided not to drive it anymore until we get a resolution to keep our leverage.

Dealership called me yesterday and we chatted for a bit and they decided to buy back our truck, cash in hand for us to do what ever we want with.

I argued that we would never be able to sell it for a reasonable price with so many repairs shown on the car fax.

Some of the issues we have:

1) AC seats broke 4 times

2) trailer brake controller shorts out and applies brakes, happened 2x

3) replacement of full exhaust

4) AC condenser cracked

5) back up camera flaked out and needed re flash

6) burns oil between oil changes

Sparing lots of details but Guess just wanted to post this for all you guys with issues that it might be worth asking the dealership about options, potentially maybe getting them to buy you an extended warranty?

Now we just have to decide what truck to get, playing with the ideas

1) exact same truck except 2016

2) 2500HD with Dmax

3) 1500 Denali

I get calls & mail from dealers offering my trade value plus 20% if I want to buy another new truck from them ... just a shortage of low mile truck trade ins .... which is similar to what they told you (?)

Move on the the next one - most are very reliable - fight for more of a deal

Yeah i got that in the mail too! however, i called them complaining about all my issues and seeing what they would do for me. This was the end result.

Tomorrow I am going to call them to counter. I feel they offered too low of a number and we JUST put on BGF K02's 4,000 miles ago.

however, they are not telling us to go buy a new one off their lot. They just are giving us a check for us to go away.

we are GM through and through. Just have to figure out which model we want. Definitely think we are going to steer clear of the 2014's though

If was me and had a need I would would pick the HD + Duramax. Realistically the 1500's do not even compete in the same ballpark for payload and towing other than that a 1500 is pretty much just as good in every way. Figure you put it on the list for some reason.

It is the most expensive one though since the Duramax+Alison is a 10k option.

Yeah besides the Dmax just being awesome and I have always wanted one since my best friend had one with a bunch of Banks Tuning and upgrades, My wife and I plan on getting a 25 -32 foot Baja/Sunsation Dominator/Donzi and making the 7 hour trek to Lake of the Ozarks quiet a bit every year.

    • You're better read than that Atlas. 😏   British science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke formulated three adages that are known as Clarke's three laws, of which the third law – that "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" – is the best known and most widely cited.   Stribeck and the pivotable Hersey Number isn't voodoo nor snake oil. That part is physics. It's what marketing and bean counters do with it that is snake oil and voodoo.    Stribeck is the relationship between Hersey and the Coefficient of Friction. Within the Hersey Equation if viscosity and viscosity is 'Dependent' on.......heat.......and.......viscosity index or the temperature to viscosity slope.    Specifically Hersey is the viscosity AT THE TEMPERATURE IN THAT LOCATION FOR THAT SLOPE.   Hydrodynamic lubrication exist when the film thickness in the location is 3X the Ra roughness of the surface. This is irrespective of the hardness of the substrate. To obtain that thickness X viscosity is required for Y velocity at Z load. That's a lot of moving parts. It is also impossible to maintain in an ICE but nearly possible with a turbine under constant load.    What does that mean? Error heavy and operate light. Wear is inevitable but the rate of wear and the milage obtainable are a function of prevailing conditions and HABITS. The only penalty is viscous drag and at fractions so low as to be well worth the effort. Double the life, half the manufacturing carbon foot print. Greed is the only impediment.    The materials generated by SwRI are the RESULT not an estimation or a hypothesis.    Don't delude yourself sir, EV's have as many pitfalls as ICE's. We just don't know what they are yet and it will take longer to sort as MARKETING and GREEDY CEO's have had more time to polish the turd they are selling.
    • You can always count on greed to prey on ignorance and stupidity.    Friend bought a 2019 Ford Flex and asked me about using Valvoline R&P 5W30 in it. Told him give the miles on it and the fact it wasn't yet using oil that it was a good plan. He uses a Valvoline quick change shop for his oil service.   First they tell him that isn't the oil the OEM recommends. He told them he didn't care what the OEM thought. Then they floated the, "But it will void your warranty"    His reply was it's a 2019, there is no warranty and informed them their knowledge of the law was lacking.    Then they tell him 'But it will ruin your motor"!.    Mine to ruin he says. Finally they give in and charge him 150% the semi-syn price    Point it the brainwash is so embedded that even the service industry is drunk on their swill. The public is right behind them. Echoing the same lies on every forum and media platform. If the end goal is indeed EV then I'd say that ship is about built.
    • Diesel hit $6.00 here today at the truck stop.   Payed $2.79 for E85 today too.
