Transmission Filter Kit

I am fixing to change my transmission fluid and filter at 50K on my 00 Yukon. My problem is that I don't know whether I have the deep or shallow transmission plan. The RPO on my transmission is M30 (4L60E), and I've been told that with the M30 I have the shallow pan, and with the M32 you have the deep pan. Is this absolutely true in all cases?

Also, I've been told that since I have a tow pkg, I probably have the deep pan.

So, I'm confused. Can anyone help me determine for sure whether I have the deep or shallow pan?

Thanks.

If the bottom of the pan has 2 levels, or has a step to it, it is the deep pan. I have the deep pan and the step is to clear the crosspipe. The shallow pan has a flat bottom.

Easy the 4x4 pans are the deep pans in order to clear the exhaust. You'll need a T-40 torx socket and a short (recommended) ratchet in order to remove the two bolts securing the shift cable bracket to the top of the case so you can remove the pan easily. Replace the drain plug in the trans pan with an engine drain plug which has a deeper head on it. Use a 15 mm six point or you'll round it out. Five (5) quarts of Dexron III ATF will round out your project. I have found the best results cleaning the pan with brake parts cleaner,

and reusing the OEM gasket. Loose the cork gasket.

Have a great one!

I just changed the tranny fluid in my 2000 Z71 and it was a b!$&h. My pan was about three inches or so deep. I could not get the torx bolts holding the linkage bracket loose. Also, my drain plug seemed eternally stuck in the pan. Couldn't get it out. I got the fluid changed, but it looked like a circus act! I posted the full details in another thread.

ClipperSkipper, I'll sure use that oil drain plug tip if I can ever get the tranny plug out! Not much of a head on it at all. I tried several different sockets trying to grip it. Nothing. :D
