A drop in bedliner...

I think I want to get a nice drop in bedliner for my '96 1500, was wanting a spray on but after looking into them, thinking a drop in would be better ( and muuch cheaper).

So where do you go to pick one up? Anyplace besides the dealer? Any reason I should NOT get one from the dealer....too pricey..?

Thanks,

Tim

A drop in is nowhere near as good as a spray in.

The only downside to a spray in is that it may chip a little when heavily used but most reputable spray in manufacturers(LineX,Rhino,etc...) also have a lifetime warranty with their liners.

With the drop in you will get paint rubbing and moisture underneath and behind it,both of which will promote rust.

My opinion, spend the $350 on the spray in.

Just look for a place that sells truck accessories. We have a place close to us called "Lenoard" that sells drop-ins. Auto Zone or Advance Auto Parts may also carry them, but their supply may be more limited.

I saw one on the side of the freeway today. that's just another downside of drop ins.

Spray in liner is the way to go If you cant aford it wait till you can. I have the Linex and anm very happy with it. I have carried everything form bricks to a pallet of redi mix. I've spilled oil and gasolene in it and just hosed the bed out and see no damage. I really think you should look into the spray in liner.

Ok, so why spray on and why not?

I walked by one today in the parking lot and it looked faded and old, like it didnt hold up that well.

Do the spray on places warranty against fading?

And...what is a good price on one? I thought they ran ~$500...?

the spray on Linex protects the bed from rust. The surface isn't slippery like most dropins. Fadeing may happen but that will happpen to a drop in to. You will have access to all the tie down hooks and channels to put wooden spacers . The liner is not protected by a no fade warrenty but I understand there is a spray you can use that restores the originas color. Mine is 10 months old and looks good and has taken a beating.

Got a spray-in liner done in the farm truck about a month ago it costed the company just a bit shy of 500 dollars

It took them about 4 hrs to do it

Oh btw i took the drop-in liner out of my 97 about a week ago and cleaned under it . The paint had not rubbed off anywhere like most say it does

Yeah I keep hearing folks say liners rub the paint off the bed but I've never seen it be a big problem. I had a Dakota that I sold after 5 years/80,000miles. Had a liner in it the whole time I owned it and I removed it and gave it to a buddy prior to selling the truck. The paint was rubbed down to primer in a few small raised areas in the rear of the bed and had no rust anywhere. The paint was scratched up for sure but was in overall good condition. I looked under my F250 liner a few days ago and the paint is wearing well on it as well. It did have a few worn paint spots where the tailgate protector rubs the rear of the bed.

I would have to say I'm w/ timk49 on this one. Love my spray in liner. Had drop ins on previous trucks. Stuff slid all over the place. Have used my new truck to haul stuff- nothing slid around, easy to clean and still looks new 5 mos later. Worth the $350.00 just my .02

BTW- they do have a lifetime warranty aginst chips & cracks.......... Fading

As I've stated in previous posts, I have the Linex and love it.

I also concur with the reports about durability and looks.

2 weeks ago, I had to haul about a yard of blue stone to do some minor repairs on my driveway. My 14 year old son (who is in that age where "more force is better"), was using a shovel to get out all the stone. Not a single nick in the liner. Spayed it out and looks like the day I had it installed. :D

bummed.
