Hey guys first post here thanks in advance for any help.

I have a 07 savana 4.8. Thus morning everything fired up fine. Stopped at the gas station to fuel up and, afterwards the truck wouldn't start. The starter wouldn't engage at all no clicking, nothing.

Pulled it back to the shop removed the starter and took it too the Auto shop for testing- all good.

Here's where it gets weird.

Reinstalled the starter, went to hook the battery cables back up and as soon as I touched the hot cable to the battery the starter engages. Checked the key. It was in the office position. So I removed the the key. Touched the cable to the battery again. The starter engages. Hmm... I remove the stater relay from the fuse box under the hood. Touch the cable to the battery once more. The starter engages. Wtf?

Double check that the wires are connected correctly, and that they are not twisted enough to short across the terminals on the starter. Then double check that the solenoid on the starter is not stuck applied. A quick test to isolate the issue would be to disconnect all the wires at the starter except the heavy battery cable. If the starter still engages as soon as the battery is connected you will know for sure the cause of this issue is in the starter itself. Note that this issue may not be connected to the original problem. The action of R&R the starter may have created this issue.
