Definition of 1500 payload

Trying to simply figure out the payload of a truck. 2009 extended cab 4x4 5.3 regular bed. Trying to figure out how Chev describes it. Do they add passenger weight, fuel, etc.

I know people probably asked this before but I'm trying to search it while in class and can't find it. Thanks

Lots of variables in payload rating - body style, trim level, etc. You'd be hard-pressed to find a definitive answer for your specific truck online. But for your truck, I'd guess right around 1500 lbs.

 

There's a sticker on your door that will have it.

 

AFAIK, the payload rating on the sticker is simply the weight of the truck when it rolled off the line subtracted from the GVWR. I don't think it includes fuel.

Wow that sounds pretty useless then. My little Tacoma is 1300lbs. I guess I need a 2500 for sure then. Thanks

Part of the problem is all the options most of these trucks have. If you want max payload, then get a W/T truck with manual crank windows and less sound-deadening materials. Heck, the sticker on my '09 Sierra Denali says max payload of 1449 lbs. The sticker I posted above is for my Suburban 2500, which is kinda like a 1500HD. The 2500HD trucks will have payload ratings closer to 3,000 lbs.
