M/T vs A/T tires 2014 Sierra 2wd

Need help guys,

 

I have the 2014 GMC (Pearl White) 2wd, SLT package and 20in (spider-web) rims, as the guys on these forums call them. Have a few detailed questions and hate to beat the dead horse and re-ask them on other pages if they have already been answered so figured I'd start a new post. To keep things as short and sweet as possible, I'm looking to do the 2.5in front level with some 33's. The two sets of tires I have been interested in is of course the Toyo MTs 295/55 or the Duratrac 275/60. It goes without question that the MTs look 1000x better with comparison to height/width ratios IMO, however, those bastards are 72lbs a peice compared to Duratracs 48lbs but only measuring 33x11. Anyone have a relative combo with the 2wd setup, most guys on the forums are running 4wd Z71's or Denali's with larger engines and gear ratios. Being from Southern Louisiana, I am a big duck hunter and fisherman, however, my truck see's the interstate at 70-75mph 100% outside of backing down boats at the launch. So... just wanted some imput as to how harsh the MT's are on the truck in reference to weight, MPGs and just engine struggle in general. As long as the difference is not unbearable, I'm sure it will not bother me that much. My last truck was a 4x4 Nissan Frontier V6 with after market wheels and Nitto 33s, and i had plenty of miles on that rig with absolutely zero issues. I honestly loved the look it gave the truck so much I did not shed one tear over the severe loss of MPGs and lag throttle reaction the truck suffered. Have read other post confirming that both of these sizes should fit with minimal to no rubbing at all, just wondering how the truck will respond and handle the heavier tires.

With these trucks having the direct injection engines, you're not going to notice any difference in power. I'm running bigger trail grapplers than what you're putting on, and I didn't notice any difference

I'm really happy with my duratracs. Quiet on road and great off road. I spent all last week hunting and went places in 2wd that i would have been in 4x4 or 4lo in my old truck.

I have 275/60 Duratracs on my stock height truck, with a level I would consider a larger size if I didn't want MT's. It's a great tire though...

Welcome, I'm in Baton Rouge. What part of Louisiana are you from? Not sure if you have your heart set on either of those tires. I've run knock off tires on my last two vehicles and have zero complaints so far. Currently running 37" comforsers. Want to say they were around $1300 which is cheap as shit! Just something to consider.

 

To answer your question though, you will hardly notice the difference. Go with a MT you will be glad you did.

Well actually a buddy of mine ran the Atturo M/Ts and the tread pattern is almost identical to the Toyo's and way cheaper. But im from St. Bernard parish. Just south of New Orleans

I have a 2wd SLT and am running 315/70/17 cooper st maxx and the power difference was very minimal vs stock. I vote M/T's[emoji106]

Logic would tell me that a 72 lb wheel would have a noticeable increase in power consumption over a 48 lb wheel. Maybe this would be only noticed through increased fuel consumption. Could you clarify why a direct injection engine may make heavier wheels unnoticeable?

What I'm saying is that with the 14+ engines coming out with more power and better fuel economy, with the size tire he's thinking about going with, he's not going to notice a loss in power.

How significant was your decrease in MPG? Particularly around the 70-75mph range.

My truck is lifted a little bit and I'm running 35x12.5 tires. I'm getting about 16 mpg as an overall average

Hawkeye.. how significant was the rubbing on those 305/55's? Another option i have been contemplating is the Mastercraft Courser MXTs because they are relatively light and cheaper for a nice looking MT. But the sizes are very limited. 305/55 being the only one i would even consider.

Not very significant, it sounds like decent rubbing due to knobs on the tires but I took a few shots at full lock for you.
