I have two!!!  I have a 1993 Yamaha GTS 1000 sport/touring bike.  It is one of 500 in the USA.  It is very unique because it has no front forks, but a swing arm instead.  It also has ABS brakes and fuel injection.  It's 100 HP and will run about 150 MPH  (the fastest I've had it is 135 mph).  I've got about 40K miles on it and have toured up and down the East coast on it but I prefer the mtns of W VA, VA, NC, and North GA.

My other bike is a 1998 Kawasaki KLR 650 streat and trail.  I just beat around town on it and run on some woodsy roads and trails...

Josh,

My friend Nick has an R1 and a few others have R6's.  Here's his web page if you want to check it out.  He know's quite a bit about them and I'm sure he'll answer any questions for you if you e-mail him.  http://www.extremesportsyamaha.com/extreme...tremepolish.htm

He also does the web page for the local Yamaha shop if you want to check it out.  http://www.extremesportsyamaha.com/

Shaners-

You may have found it by now but if not, I highly recommend Deals Gap on the NC and TN border, for your riding pleasure. Something like 119 curves in 11 miles, hidden in the hills.

I don't live or ride in the area you're talking about anymore, but I spent many years riding the Appalaichains on a '91 Honda CBR 600.

If I could "sneak it past my wife", I'd get a '01 Kawasaki KX250 Dual Sport now -

DigUout,

I've "slayed the dragon" several times...  It's route 129 and it is unbelievable!!!  It's more like 319 turns in 11 miles.  I've got a small sticker from there on the rear of my bike!!!

That road is sooo intense that you take off and start running hard.  You're breathing hard and soaked with sweat and you look down at the speedo and you've only gone 4 miles!!!  Mostly 2nd and 3rd gear stuff with a little bit of first.  There is one stretch if pin it you'll see about 90mph before you slam the brakes on and lay it over till the pegs touch (again).

The new Cheerohalla (sp?) parkway they completed a few years back is awsome too.  It leaves from around Robinsville and travels into Tenn.  It doesn't really go anywhere, but it's 50 miles one way and you have to turn around and ride it back :).   I love riding down there!!!
