Hitch ball size for generic towing needs?

I don't tow anything regularly. When I do, it's likely to be something like a wood chipper or something of relatively modest weight such as that. What is an appropriate hitch-ball size to get for my needs?

The ball size you need depends on the trailer's hitch size. 1 7/8", 2" and 2 5/16" being the most common. Mix them up and disaster awaits.

2" is going to be the most common overall. Smaller trailers would have 1 7/8 (e.g., small utility trailers). Might be worth getting one of those ones with each size on it that you rotate. The you're covered no matter what size you need

Yeah get a 3 ball hitch. Usually around $40 @ wally world
