magnetic shocks questions?

hey guys i recently purchased a 2017 gmc sierra 1500 denali to upgrade my 13 denali. and i have been running into some problems with not having aftermarket support on coilovers and shocks to replace the factory magnetic shocks, i want to do a 4 inch lift and change out the stock shocks to icon , fox or king but they all responded that they dont have a compatible option at this time, king mentioned that they would bolt right in but they wont be compatible with the magnetic ride electronics. can someone please help me understand the magentic feature? if i was to replace the shocks with the above shocks/coilovers what would happen , will i just have a light on the dash? or is there something that has to be electronically disabled to ride properly? i hope somone here can help me understand , as i want to get this lifted asap. thank you.

If you look at a shock on your truck, you'll notice there isn't much to this "magical" system. Its a standard-looking shock that has wires going to it, and a little arm that mounts to the frame that runs a potentiometer on the shock to let the shock infer its collapsed or extended position. From that positioning, the shock decides how much to energize the magnet that acts on the iron-impregnated fluid, which changes the dampening rate of the shock.

 

No one has a compatible shock because no one can hook up to that wire. As such, you can get a "Service Ride Control" message on your DIC if its disconnected. I have seen on some Cadillac forums using a resistor on the wire harness to bypass it, and I have even seen kits on ebay that claim to bypass it, but it still seems hit or miss.

 

Edit: If you really want to do a 4 inch lift with different shocks, your best bet is/was to not start with a Denali. You can get away with smaller lifts using the stock magnetic ride shocks, which reposition the sensor arm. RC makes such a kit for 2.5 inches.

thanks for the info, bds has a 6 inch lift that works with the factory magna system, they also offer same 6 inch lift with coilovers but as you said they dont have anything that works with the factory wiring, im thinking if i go with their 6 inch lift and fox shocks and buy the bypass modul to eliminate the lights that it should work fine, or so i hope. would be nice if someone here that has went this route can chime in
