2006 Silverado Blend Door Actuator

Just joined this forum and the information is awesome. Wanted to add something for future readers. I was replacing the temperature door actuator on my nephew's 01 silverado 2500hd (single manual climate control, floorboard passenger side). Auto Zone and O'Reilly also were selling me the wrong actuator. They looked exactly the same, pins and all. However, after installation and calibration it ran in reverse. When I set the control to cold, the actuator adjusted the door to blow hot, and with control on hot, it blew cold. Very frustrating. Went to dealership and the parts guy was very cool and showed me the schematic. I found out that O'Reilly and Auto Zone were selling me an "air door actuator". This is the actuator for fresh air intake or recirculation door. It's different, and apparently runs in opposite directions with applied control voltage. Even if you are specific as to what you want (temp actuator, mode actuator, or air actuator), the Auto Zone or OReilly guys didn't have much experience with what I was talking about. They just sold me what looked right. Unfortunately you won't know until it's installed and calibrated and doesn't work correctly.

Also, don't operate it without being installed. When you first purchase it they should be positioned on the center mark ready for calibration. Don't want to overrun it and break the nylon gear inside.

I got into the habit of googling part #'s to prevent stuff like that from happening. I would have been terribly pissed if they sold me the wrong part and I installed in my truck because removing & installing that actuator just above the tranny hump was a royal pain in the butt to get to.

I've had a problem for a while with the blend door clicking and what not. Occasionally the driver side would blow slamming hot while I wanted AC all around. Most times it would correct itself and last a little while. I just swapped out my stepper motors. While in the dash, I decided to upgrade to blue LEDs all around. After the Led swap, and numerous Hvac module plug ins to see my work, when I was all said and done, I had no control at all of the air position selector switch. (Manual control dual zone). It would only blow out the face position, hot on driver and cold on passenger. I thought I melted something while soldering. But I didn't even take the module apart again. Here was my fix after fing around with it for a while, and looking at the internet (I did take apart the blend door actuator and cleaned it a long time ago, and that never really fixed it)

-remove Hvac module, set on work bench, and have a beer

-remove the 10 amp Hvac/ecas fuse under hood

-connect the Hvac module again

-install fuse

-hop in truck and close the door. without touching the controls on Hvac module, start truck and let it run for 2 minutes.

-remove key from ignition and count to 20

-start truck and check it out. First the position knob did nothing, but the blower speed still worked. All of a sudden, BAM. It works. Full control of everything was restored. I have zero miles on it right now, but I am confident it will work.

Hope this helps. And for the record, my stepper motors were bad. My blower motor resistor needed to be replaced. Been through 2 sets of rear pads, stock pads on front. I think that's all my issues, except for crazy rusting underneath. 2005 Silverado 2500 had
