8 speed swap.

Hey guys, just picked up a 4k mile 2015 LT for real cheap. And while it's under warranty I probably won't be able to do many performance mods, I've been looking into mods after the warranty is up.

From what I'm finding the cam swaps and most supercharger kits are kind of disappointing. Even the $6500 Whipple takes a cam to make 500whp!

I feel like for the price, a 6.2 L86 and 8 speed swap is going to be a smarter idea for the dollar than going with a big Whipple or one of those ridiculously expensive Armageddon kits.

That being said, is there anyone with actual familiarity with these engine and transmissions to be able to say what it takes to swap them? I don't expect it to be a plug and play ordeal, and it can cost a couple thousand to do because since GM wanted to be stingy about the 6.2 the trim levels they came with cost another $10,000 more than what I paid for my 5.3.

Honestly the biggest part of this swap to me is the 8 speed. That thing improves acceleration numbers quite a bit by itself. And with its TQ capacity I can build a forged l83 with as much boost as I want. So my truck will be getting that trans swap someday no matter what.

Swap would prob be around the 6-10k range. That's if you did it yourself too. I'd just trade the truck in and get the 6.2 from the factory.

There's a wrecked 6.2l motor on eBay for 6k+. Tranny and all the brainboxes are a couple thousand more.

Better to supercharge it and be done. I dont see how buying a supercharger is disappointing.

Just out of curiosity, did you ever do a swap?  I'm sure others would be interested!
