Intermediate Steering Shaft Clunking (Fix)

So I've had this noise for a while and wasn't sure if it was the steering shaft bearing or ISS, so I tried a few DYI fixes first before throwing parts at it. The first thing I did was the exhaust clamp to secure the steering shaft bearing. This did help a little, but the noise was still there. After securing the steering wheel, I then disconnected the intermediate steering shaft and pushed it in and out for a couple of minutes to redistribute the grease on the shaft. Astoundingly, this fixed the problem, and there is no more clunking noise. Neither of these were my idea, the clamp idea was from another forum and pushing in the ISS was from you tube. Just thought I'd share my experience as I have gotten a lot of info from here and didn't see these two fixes. I would imagine I'll have to replace the ISS at some point, but I'll see how long this fixes the problem.

All solutions to this have been posted many times. Just not that GMT800 business going on on the forum for it to come up regularly like it used to Your option was used by GM for a very short while. The noise always came back, so they upgraded the part

No need to delete. It's good that you posted. Might help the next guy. But a reminder for all, by searching you can often find your answer much quicker than waiting for someone to respond
