I have a 16 1500 double cab 8" no nav no bose and I would like to upgrade door speakers and tweeters. What are some good budget $250-500 options. Just want clean sound I do not need a sub

The 6x9 and the 2.75 for dash. Might need more power for the 6x9 though

I think the worst part of the stereos in these trucks is the reverb in the panels. That's where I'm starting, raammat then re-evaluate

Infinity Kappa 60.11cs, I installed these a week before I installed my amp and processor and I love them it's a world of difference. It's also easy to fit the crossover inside the door so you can mount the tweeter in the sail panel.

Pm me if you have questions, I just spent the last month updating my stereo.

LC7 serving an Alpine PDR-v75, the processor is overkill but I bought it for any sort of future truck I may own the require more inputs and summing

OP I know you said you didn't want to add a sub but the best way to clear up speakers is to take the bass out of them and add a sub. Adding a 5 channel amp is pretty easy and will make a huge difference in sound quality.

To each their own but I don't agree with this. Mid bass can make or break a system in my opinion. When I tune I use my mid bass speakers as a sub pretty much.

is that infiniti kappa on amazon a replacement for door speakers? seems things have come a long way since the last time I upgraded audio. I might bend and get a 10" under a rear seat i just really dont want to lose the underseat storage.

Not a direct replacement, no speaker for that matter is a direct replacement as the stock speakers and the door speaker brackets are all one piece. If you buy the Kappas or any other 6.5" PM me your address and email. I ordered extra front door speaker brackets thinking they'd work in the door but they don't so instead of dealing with Amazon returning them, Ill ship them to you for the cost of shipping. Might as well start 2017 off with a good deed...

In my truck I used the stock speaker wire into the door and ran that into the input of the crossover. Then I mount the 6.5" in the stock location with the brackets and my tweeters in the sail panels. The cross over is mounted just in front of the middle of the door storage area, just under the grab handle of the door. I only had to clip one internal piece of plastic to make it fit.

I will say the components were an awesome upgrade on their own and really added the perfect imagine to the stereo BUT you will experience clipping at long term full volume and I believe its because Kappas thrive with a lot of power and the stock internal amp can't keep up. I'm not an expert but that's what I think was happening so the sound after 15-20 minutes running at maximum volume got real muddy but normalized after backing down to 3/4 volume.

The addition of the amp cleared this issue up. If you want to keep things simple you can probably find a good amp with speaker level inputs so you don't need a processor but I used the processor just to keep things clean. Amp and processor are mounted to MDF which is double stick taped to the back wall. DO NOT DRILL, its only one layer of metal in most spots. Loctite permanent mounting tape worked perfect fine.

I pulled all the signals TO the processor from the green plug behind the stereo and all my amp feed BACK to the speaker again tied into the wiring behind the stereo. 8 sets of 16 gauge wire were run and fit nicely in the passenger side wire chases from the rear up the side behind the glove boxes and to the rear of the stereo. Power was run down the drivers side. My stock dash speakers are amplified with my current arrangement and its only a matter of time until they go bye bye. I dont think I need them so once they blow, its time to unplug them.

There is 1 new amp that I know of with hi/lo input so no need for a processor. And it's active capable and has summing. It's a 5 ch made my digital designs. If I wasn't running a 3 way front stage I would have bought it already

I just installed Rockford Fosgate tweeters P1ts and 6 1/2 P1650 and they sound great. I bought both on Amazon and it was approximately $40.00 for each pair. I also added a small amp for each set. The amps are really small in size (4"X 2 1/2"X 1 1/2") and put out about 45 Watts per speaker, not the claimed 500watts! But this is perfect for these speakers and miles ahead of your factory speakers. They are very easy to hook up and again because of the size these amps fit almost anywhere!! Look up Kinter amps on Amazon and you'll find them for $12-16 dollars! So for a little over a hundred dollars you'll have a great sound!!! Any way I can help just ask.

PS: I know that you said that you didn't want an amp but for your speakers to really perform you need something other than your stock head unit. The amps I recommended are a simple two wire hook up for power and speakers in then out!!! No complicated wiring or other items that are in most high end, complicated systems. Good luck!!!

thanks tony I will definitely look into it! I guess I will be looking for a sub aswell. Im 28 I cant really hear for $#!+ anymore lol I have had JL subs from w0 to w7. I will probably be looking for a 10w2 or 10w3 with a simple 500 watt amp for bass. I am liking the infinity setup posted earlier for price and the reviews seem nice. I honestly was expecting more Alpine door suggestions but I am all ears, the sub will be a JL though.

    • Yes, and also pulling heavy trailers or a large camper up steep grades as well as descending grades such as the more rustic off road camping locations and using engine braking with that low gearing as well as soft ground can just suck the power . I realize pickups these days tend to have an over all lower first gear ratio compared to automatic transmission pickups from years back so that has helped a lot in its ability in high range but there comes a point if in four wheel drive the torque runs out at the wheels, certainly with a gas engine. They don't put two speed transfer cases on pickups for a cool factor, they have a function if one needs that massive torque to the wheels that high range can't deliver.
    • Notes 7/18/2026   3,400 miles on this batch of Mobil 1 Euro 5W40 since the GDI pump replacement. Alcohol runs very clean when ring seal is tight and the sump isn't getting hosed with fuel. Checked oil level at fill up today as is my practice and grabbed a white Kleenex to look at the color. What color?  I was going to change it but.....
    • 4 low is really nice on steep boat ramps.
    • Interesting, I suspect I would have fueled up in Lee Vining as the day prior I would have filled up either in Laughlin or near there and maybe again before I entered Death Valley and once out the other side late that evening as I kept on driving into the night up near Lee Vining. Next morning I most likely fueled up in LV before heading over Tioga Pass into ( as I refer to it as "Yose .... Mite" 😁 ). And again that was 19 years ago but the price then must not have jumped out at me like the 5 bill a gallon theme of nutty cult hippy country Big Sir or head so far up their rear Aspen. I'd be curious to know where the highest prices are in the lower 48, I probably would not be far off to guess somewhere in Cali forn ie. Coldfoot and Prudhoe bay may have those prices beat but that is a whole other world up there and when prices are more normal elsewhere that is about what they can be up there I believe in no mans land. Anyway interesting that the 395 corridor is hosing people and the thing is, its tourist season and its not like there are a lot of competition options when driving up that highway from what I could see. Yup, big ole Boaterhomes and various other RV's ahead and behind me at the Yosemite entrance gate and they have to get their fuel somewhere.
    • Those can be high, as well as the big California cities. The ones that will pop your eyes out are the 395 corridor on the Eastern side of the Sierra Nevadas. Lee Vining, $7.19 for regular and $8.89 for diesel is what the Google said right now.
