2017 Silverado Apple Play issues

Just replaced my 2016 1500 Silverado with a 2017 version. Trucks are identical in options, but the Apple Play does not work like it did on the 2016. When I receive a phone call, the screens don't tell me who is calling unless I go into the actual Apple play icon in the menu. My 2016 would display the incoming caller on the screen no matter where I was in the menus. Text messages would also display while I was using the radio. So you knew when you got a new message. With the 2017 I get nothing on the screen when I get a text message unless I am parked in the Apple play area. Thinking there needs to be a software update to make it work like my 2016 Silverado and my new 2016 Tahoe.

You can ask your dealership but I doubt they can do much. I'm pretty sure CarPlay is mostly controlled by the phone, not the vehicle. I know there have been changes to CarPlay when there is an iOS update.

I actually still have the 2016 here at the shop, so I plugged back into that truck. Works just like it should on the 2016. There are differences in the software on the 2017, figured it is something to do with that.

Good luck sorting it out. If it's not a setting that's different you'll never get an upgrade out of the dealership. Look at how much GM has left people out to dry with infotainment and on star upgrades over the years.

I have a call into the dealer already, waiting on the tech expert to get back to me. I figured I would ask about it here in case anyone else had noticed the issue. Really becomes a problem when I am on the road and getting phone calls with nothing on the display.

Do the messages come up even if you have the radio screen up? Hopefully mine is just a software glitch that can be updated.

Yes..Texts come up on the top of the screen and phone calls pop up on entire screen. This is with my phone plugged in with the USB and the radio screen is up.

You probably need to sync your contacts to the new truck. Check your Bluetooth settings on the phone. Click on the new truck under Bluetooth and make sure you have contacts turned on. I think it's something you have to authorize for every new vehicle you pair.
