Just wondering, I have had my 03 TB for about a month and took our first real long trip . Is the wind noise you hear normal ? At speeds of 75 + it sounded like the front windows were cracked open. As nice as this truck is I'd thought they (GM) would make this quieter.

If anyone has had the same issue how did you resolve it? I thought about placing some weatherstrip where I think it's coming from.

So far so good other than that little clitch, it drives us crazy. THANKS for any help !!

My aunt brags how quiet her TrailBlazer is, claiming that at freeway speeds, one merely needs to whisper to carry on a conversation.

I'd check for door alignment, doors closing all the way, etc., things like that which might need to be adjusted by the dealer. That TrailBlaser is apparently a very nicely made truck. Check for tightness on all doors, windows, and hatch gate.

We just got an 04 Rainier and we are having the same problem with the front A-Pillars at highway speed.... it sounds like air is leaking by the mirrors but on the inside of the door... very annoying, especially considering what this truck cost, and the fact that Buick is touting its "laminate insulated glass windshield", etc etc. and more sound deadening than the TB and Envoy...

Sounds like a line of bull to me.... anybody else have this problem? If so, whats the fix?

You guys sure that it isn't coming from a boot in the firewall?

My next door neighbor had a noise issue with his wifes Trailblazer, and it turned out to be where something went through the firewall. A boot had come loose, and it got pretty loud when he got on it, or was travelling at speed.

nope, its definitely coming from the A-Pillar area.

I noticed that the driver side seal looked "off" compared to the passenger side.

The driver side is worse than the passenger side, noise wise, and if I push and prod the seal from inside the truck, it changes loudness.

Just curious if anyone else had or has this problem. I realize there will be some wind noise while travelling down the high way, but my Silverado has less wind noise than this thing.... not saying much for the Rainier

There are several GM360 platform owners that have/had wind noise problems. GM needs to fix this. I would have thought that with the advertising of the quiet Rainier this problem would have been solved. I have seen some fixes on other forums, but I am not sure I can mention these forums here without getting into trouble with the administrators.

Ditto on the RAINER. Bought ours a month ago. Took a long trip to Nags Head from Northern VA. At 75mph+ the wind noise IS very noticeable. For $45K you'd think they would of road tested this?! Guess GM is still used to selling Buicks to old people and not leadfooted youths :-)

The only wind noise concerns I have dealt with, and I've dealt with quite a few, are:

1) Bug Deflectors on the hood and/or VentVisors on the windows.

and:

2) The small gap in the mirror head assembly.

I have not seen ANY other wind related concerns that didn't end up being one of these.

The mirror issue has been dealt with by GM and there is a bulletin out there on it's fix.

As ar as the accessories are concerned there is no way to "fix" without removing the suspect part.

Hope this helps.

GMCTech,

Our Rainier is bone stock from the dealership, no additions... no bug deflectors or anything, and based on what you said, that sounds about right (the gap in the mirrors). The noise seemed to be focused around the mirror area.

Since there is a fix for this, I will mention to the dealership that the noise appears to be coming from the mirror area and hopefully they can put 2 and 2 together to make 5, errr... 4 and fix the noise

Thanks

2) The small gap in the mirror head assembly.

Could you share with us what is involved in the "fix"? TIA

Okay here goes - close your eyes if you have a weak stomach.

GM suggests putting black silicone RTV in any gaps over 1/4 of an inch

Our fix is replacing the mirror assemblies with new under warranty. (We are sure to fill the gaps with silicone just in case GM asks for the return, we can tell them that didn't work. :smash:

The common gaps are right at the edge of the mirror moulding and the door , and the mating areaa of the blinker lens (if it has one), and where the back "cover" mates to the mirror head.

Before you try any of this make sure that the mirrors are in the "locked" - full-out position, just to be sure that is not the problem.

Hope this helps.

Just bought a new 2004 Trailblazer EXT and I have noticed the noise you guys are talking about. Thanks GMCTech for the info! I think I'll be taking it in for service, but I'm sometimes afraid that what I get back will be worse than what I went in with. Is there a possibility that some damage could occur when they are changed?.... for example a rattle to replace the wind noise. Thanks!

Same here, take long 500 mile trips from Boston to Nova Scotia and back and the truck is very quiet at 75mph on the highway. Handles very good too for a SUV.

I fixed the wind noise problem in my mirrors by putting clear silicone in the tiny seams (1/16 to 1/8 inch) that run around the circumference of the mirrors.
