Well, I got a flat tire last night on the Tahoe. Apparently I drove over a nail or something that punctured my driver's side rear tire on the way into my subdivision. I just so happened to look outside and saw it going down. When I inspected it, you could hear the air pouring out. I used an air pump to pump it back up so I could get it into the garage and remove the tire. At lunch today I am going to take it to get fixed.

I guess it is trying to tell me it wants new tires??? :)

Well at least it didn't go flat on the freeway, always a plus.

You're in the right mindset, why spend 20 bucks to get the tire fixed when you can put that $$$ towards new tires :)

Well, I took it to Discount Tire yesterday and spent $10 to get it fixed. They really made me mad though because it took them and hour and a half to do it even with an appointment :) . But at least it is fixed and driveable.

Yes, I am glad it didn't happen on the freeway. A flat/blown tire at 80+ MPH on Houston freeways wouldn't be a pretty sight.

Where in Houston are you located? I am in Katy...a few weeks ago I had 2 flats in the same day...two different tires, two different reasons. I first notcied early in the day that one of the back tires was low, so I took it to discount, they found a small leak, $10 later, I was on my way. One thing I noticed was that their impact wrench had a hard time getting my lug nuts off. It kind of struggled, but it eventually got them loose. (Keep that in mind for what Im about to say!) Later on that day, i'm all dressed up going to pick up the girlfriend up to go out, i pick a big piece of metal up in the road and it deflates my other back tire immediately. Ironically enough, it happed right as I was passing the same discount tire place that had fixed the other tire from earlier, only problem was it was 6:07, and they closed at 6:00. No big deal, right...I can change a flat. It won't take any time at all. So i get all the crap out, pull the lug nut cover off, and go to take the 6 nuts off. I have one of those lug wrenchs in the shape of an x for better leverage. I couldn't get a single one off. Not one. Usually the way it works is I can get 5 off, but not the last one. Nope. Not one. Called my dad. He comes out, he pushes, I pull, can't budge a single one. Girlfriends dad comes out...eventually call chevy roadside assistance. 5 minutes later (amazing, huh?) they were out there. He had a huge pipe that we were able to use, although we almost stripped 1 nut out. Were finished, but i'm covered in grease and sweatin my balls off. Go to discount tire the next day and talked to the same guy that had fixed the previous tire. I asked him what the torque specs were for my truck, he said 100, but he didn't think that was right, so he torqued them all down to 140. Bastard.

"Friends don't let friends drive in Houston" (bumper sticker in the area)

...and that's why I live 70 miles north in Huntsville. My Houston pals don't like it up here when they visit, though.

They claim they don't trust air that they can't see. :sigh:

Hey seadoons where in Katy are you? Im on southside of I-10 off of Westgreen. Did you take it to the Discount Tire on I-10 by Mason? just wondering so i'll know to be cautious next time i go there. And when did discount start charging $10 for flat repairs? I liked it better when it was free :sigh: !

Hey Irymal, im the guy who bought the Corsa muffler from you on e-bay. i still havent had a chance to get it installed. been busy as hell. did you ever get another aftermarket muffler or did you decide to stick with factory?

my o3 silverado calls for 140ftlbs too. I can get them off with the wrench from chevy though. I remember my dad's old truck got a flat. We went to change it and couldn't budge it singly. We're both over 6ft and 250lbs. Together we got them loose, but the 4 way was bent up like a pretzel and almost didn't function for the last nut. I wonder what they were torqued down to. When they came off it made a highpitched scream that hurt my ears.

We were able to get 5 of the 6 off with the 4 way, but we bent it too. igbig - I am on the North side of I-10 in Williamsburg Settlement. My girlfriend lives on the east side of Westgreen. I am over there all the time. Is your truck an extended cab? If so, I think I know where you live...I think I saw your truck in your driveway yesterday. If it is the one I am thinking of, it looks really good. It has the Z71 sticker that doesn't say "off road" Is that correct? Yeah...I took it to the mason road one. They used to be free, that's why I went there. Now its 10 bucks. Rip off.

i'll be d**n! yep my truck is extended cab,red with a tonneau. I live in the white house on the cul-de-sac on Kelliwood trails. small world isnt it? Thanks for the compliment on my truck! i just wish it was a little higher! I think ive only been to the mason road dicount one time, they are always super busy,i usually go to the one on highway 6 by west oaks mall. ive never had any problems there...then again ive never had a flat so ive never had to take my tire off.nice talking to you maybe we'll run into each other one day!

I live in the Fairfield subdivision out 290 West. It is actually Cypress, TX. But I work on I-10 and Eldridge. I went to the Discount Tire on Hwy 6 and Westheimer by West Oaks Mall...I won't ever go back. They were SOOOOO slow!

Anyway, both my Silverado and my Tahoe call for 140 ft-lbs on the lug nuts. Normally if I have to take them off at home, I use a 1/2" drive ratchet with a 7/8" socket, a long extension, and a 2 foot cheater pipe over the handle of the ratchet. Works great. I just bought a torque wrench too so now I can get them torqued to that 140 mark.

Hey...all you Houston area guys. Why don't we plan sometime to all meet somewhere? I don't know about you, but I would love to see everyone's trucks and get some ideas for future mods. What do you think?
