2007 NBS dash cluster question

Hey all,

I got on the highway tonight and my oil pressure gauge was pegged at 75ish. The needle moves around the amount it does normally between idle and driving but it's really high up. When I turned the truck of and turn on the dash I saw the following image:

 

It's there some way of re-zeroing the needle? Or is this the dreaded stepper motor issue? This problem annoys me more than it should I'm sure but whatever the problem is I'm hoping to fix it next week. Any help is greatly appreciated!

If was me I would plug it in and get the code for the CEL, it might be as simple as a bad oil pressure sensor, or a bad connection at the sensor.

The CEL is because the engine isn't on, when I turn it on the light goes off.

Turn the key on all the way without starting the engine 3 or 4 times. If the needle drops down to zero chances are you have a bad solder joint on the step down winding of the stepper motor. The new generation of truck clusters that you have do not have stepper motor problems like the previous generation but they were still built in Mexico and have cold solder problems.

The needle drops to zero when the key is off, when I turn the key to give the dashboard power it goes up to the position shown. Is that what you mean?

No, that looks like an oil pressure switch with a blown diaphragm. Check your oil pressure sending unit, it is probably leaking oil a bit.

At 197k, my 07 avy oil pressure sender shorted out. The dash read either 0 or 80 at random. The check engine light illuminated, indicating unexpected voltage > oil pressure sender. On a scanner, the oil pressure read 83 psi key on engine off and 135 psi running at idle. I replaced the sender, and now the gauge reads accurately. You may need some further computer diagnosis because your symptoms are not exactly as mine were.

Awesome thanks for the input guys. My truck decided to voice it's opinion:

 

I'm not going to hurt anything driving with this until next week am I?

 

I've looked around online and seen a couple conflicting posts about how to replace it, but alldatadiy says to pull the whole intake manifold off... Do I actually have to do that or is it located on the side of the engine and just hard to get to?

I did mine with the intake in place, but I have a good idea what it looks like taken apart. I was able to do it by feel only, no looking.

One last question... All data says to use sealant on the threads of the new sensor but it looks like there already is some white sealant on it... Is that good enough or do I need something else?

Some already come with the sealant already applied you don't usually need to apply more unless it was wiped off somehow.

Does this look like the right amount of sealant? I'd hate for this stupid thing to start leaking
