Clunk when putting 2015 Yukon Denali in reverse?

Cant seem to find anything on this issue. We have a 2015 Yukon Denali and after you start it, put it in reverse it makes a loud clunk/jerk when you lift off the brake. Anyone else experience this? Oil change isnt for another 2500mi and was trying to hold off until then to have it looked at.

I am not sure what the rear suspension is on the Yukon? but if it is set up with leaf springs like the GM trucks I would put some u-bolt clamps on leaf springs about 5" in front of the axle block to help prevent axle wrap plus re-torque the axle ubolts. It worked for my 2014 GMC Sierra to stop the noise. Bought the u-bolts at autozone it was a about 15 bucks for a 2 pack I think and only takes a few minutes to install plus torque check the axle u-bolts. But of course if you are under warranty have them check everything out at the dealership it could be an expensive transmission problem! I was told that my transmission was fine and the noise was "NORMAL" so I fixed it myself LOL

Same issue for me (2015i.)

I find it when in 4wd mode. In 2wd it isn't an issue. I haven't even bothered complaining to the dealer about it.

This isnt the sierra vibration. This is a loud clunk when you put it in gear. It was bad this morn so we went ahead and dropped it off at the dealer

Hello zmnypit,

We’re sorry to hear about this loud clunk noise and certainly understand how frustrating this could be. Feel free to send us a private message if you’d like us to reach out to your dealer regarding your vehicle concern. We look forward to hearing back from you!

Best,

Anthony

Here is the scenario. You get the vehicle back and the clunk is the same or worse, they tell you that the trans is in learning mode after the reprogram and to give it a few thousand miles to relearn. After you get tired of taking it back and messing with them you finally go to autozone and buy the clamps and install them plus re-torque the axle bolts and drive happily ever after......I really hope that I am wrong on this (except for the driving happily ever after part), but either way please follow up in a few months and let the forum know how it works out.

Dealer just called and they had to update the Transmission Control Module. We'll pick it up later today and see how it acts.

Mine is in for the same issue plus several other trans quirks. Clunks, bangs, flaring, delayed engagement cold, and going from drive stop reverse. Also had a engine light that came up TCM. We'll see??

Let me know what it says as far as update on your receipt? may have to inform my dealer. Thanks

So far believe it or not it is better. I've driven it a couple times and it hasn't done it. My wife who drives it the majority of the time says she hasn't noticed it. Guess we'll see how long it lasts.

I have 2018 Sierra Denali and have that same problem plus vibration, shifting bangs, rpms unsteady going uphill jerks and hesitates and other issues. Started doing that right after 300miles on clock. It’s been at the service dealer 5 times now and all they say is that it’s normal and if no codes come up they can’t do anything. Sense then I filed a claim with gmc and all they tell me is to take the truck back to service. Now the service people are running out of excuses to say. they say that gm knows of the issues with the transmission, but don’t want to do anything about it. All I have to say is I’m so discussed and angry at gm.  They just don’t know what they’re doing. $60,000 ??

BeardedRat, file the Lemon Law. Check the Lemon Law in your state and Google for a Lemon law attorney in your area. Keep all your documentation and document your conversations. in most states the Lemon Law attorney gets paid as part of the Lemon Law settlement so you don't have any out of pocket expense for an attorney to take your case. No reason to pay that much money for a new truck and not be happy with your purchase. Gm is not your friend and they will fight you all the way. Good luck.

Anyone have an update on this known issue? I have taken our 2015 Yukon Denali for this transmission hard shift/clunk when shifting from parked into Reverse 4-5 times. It has been serviced twice for a supposedly faulty assembly part (I don’t know which part) then twice for re-programming. This is my wife’s daily driver and the issue keeps coming back. Very annoying and disturbing clunk. Embarrassing to put this $75K beast intro Reverse at my kid’s school Parking lot.  We scare people with the clunk. GMC service techs at 3 different dealers have not been able to fix or offer a solution.

I have a 2016 Yukon  SLT that just started doing the same thing.  Before it started, I had it in for 2 recall corrections involving the braking computer program. Could it be related to that?

Update to this issue: The clunk/jerk in reverse is gone and stayed gone. With that being said we still have an intermittent issue where I can put it in reverse and press the accelerator and it acts like its in neutral for a couple secs. It will rev to 2500rpm of so then slowly start moving. It doesn't happen all the time so of course every time I take it to the dealer it doesn't act up. They replace the valve body and still the same issue.
