Question RE Remote Start 2013 Chevy silverado 1500 LT

Hello, my name is Jesse. I am a newbie on this forum and I have introduced myself on the introductions form board. I am somewhat mechanically inclined, but I'm sure there are things that I will not understand from time to time so please forgive my ignorance in advance.

I have recently received a 2013 Chevy Silverado 1500 LT from my mother-in-law (After my father-in-law passed away). I noticed after I received it that the truck had on star. So after activating on star, I was informed by the representative that the truck had Remote start in that I could use the OnStar app to turn on the truck. So I downloaded both the OnStar app and the mice for the Leah to my iPhone 6 Plus.

After three or four restarts of my iPhone, I was able to lock and unlock the truck using the myChevrolet app as well as see the diagnostic information about my truck. However I am not able to start the truck. Using the myChevrolet app, the turn signal lights just flash once and I can hear the doors lock. The requests in the OnStar app just timeout.

After doing some reading, I have verified that my glove compartment shows the AP8 code. However, my key fob does not have the remote start button.

I realize I might have to order a key fob online that has the remote start button and maybe go to the dealership and have them program the new fob to the truck. However, given the information above, is there anything that will keep this from working? I guess another way to ask this is, showing that I have the AP8 code, my truck will indeed support the remote start? If so, anyone have an idea why the myChevrolet app and the OnStar app are not able to turn the truck on?

Thanks!

Jesse

Sorry, just noticed some typos.

Where it says, "So I downloaded both the OnStar app and the mice for the Leah to my iPhone 6 Plus," I meant to type MyChevrolet app to my iPhone 6 Plus.

Stupid autocorrect.

AP8 is extended range keyless entry with remote start prep. You will need the GM accessory remote start kit installed by a GM dealer to have active remote start.

22970855 is the kit #, comes with two fobs and an activation code. A dealer would have to call in the code and program the truck and fobs for the remote start to work. GM retails the kit, installed price at $345.
