OIl Pressure gauge 6.0 funky readings

Hi Folks,

Thanks for the previous help...I replaced the intake gaskets and knock sensors with OEM parts and it purrs like a kitten...

Question: The oil pressure gauge sits at 40 PSI when off & no key in the switch. When I put the key in the switch and turn it to the start position it still sits at 40PSI, however when I finally start it, it starts moving to respond to engine rpm ( usually from 40-60 psi).

Is this the oil sending unit I have read so much about, or something else?

Thanks for any help on this.

this could possibly be the instrument cluster going out. It did it to mine, and the speedo quit, and so did the fuel gauge. RockAuto has them, but cost and require a core charge. there is a guy in Wisconsin that rebuilds them, and I don't know how much he charges.

that sounds like something is up with the instrument panel. when the key is off, power to the instrument panel is turned off (for the gauges anyway), so it should go to the lowest position by default, like the rest of the gauges.

Mines an 01 2500HD, LQ4 6.0. Like I said, it's done exactly what the OP is describing for the past couple years I've owned it. I don't think it's a problem, just keep your eye on it
