New Ride 2016 Chevrolet 2500HD Z71

Back in December I bought a leftover 2016 Chevy 2500 HD. The reason the black wheels got put on this truck is because someone else had bought a midnight edition 2500 and didn't like the black wheels. So the dealer swapped the aluminum wheels off this truck and put them on the midnight edition and the truck I bought ended getting the black wheels. I think the black wheels look good on this truck with the black emblems, nerf bars and white color. This truck rides smoother and has a smaller sportier feel than my 2011 GMC 2500 HD (basically same truck) that I traded. I was looking at diesels but decided I just don't tow enough to justify the diesel cost. Plus, this will be my 3rd 6.0 and they've all been bullet proof. My only dislike....... I don't care for the power steering on this truck. When I test drove this truck it was on a 4 lane wide, smooth flat road and it seemed to drive basically the same as my old truck. I did notice the steering did feel lighter than my old truck, but wasn't concerned. But on unevenly surfaced, narrower state and county roads the truck feels twitchy. I haven't noticed any play in the steering, but it feels far less planted than what my 2011 GMC did. I know this sounds stupid, but this truck takes far more concentration to keep it between the lines and not make your passengers car sick from the twitchyness. I originally thought it was tires, but after a little research online I figured out it was the digital power steering assist.

Here are a few pictures. Enjoy!

Nice score on the Midnight wheels deal there. And they kept the Duratracs on them too! If that steering over time gets to you more, they do have a couple bulletins and repairs for concerns with the digital steering gear boxes.

I like the look of the wheels on your rig! I just got my 2016 2500HD Crew and it was the WT package. PAinted steel wheels :( But the price was right. :) Somewhere in the future, I will be added black wheels. This picture makes me want them sooner....

Thanks! I really like the tires. I think they definitely add to the Z71 package. I haven't taken it off road anymore than going down my gravel road but I'm sure they'll serve me well. I was originally looking at the work trucks, but found this truck online at a steal of a price. Well, when I showed up to the dealership after the test drive and when it came to negotiating price I was informed by the salesman they had mispriced the truck by roughly $3500! No wonder I thought it was a steal, it was! LOL! After some more negotiating back and forth I finally bought it. Its got leather and way more features than what I normally go for, but man its a sweet truck.

On the power steering deal.... I doesn't seem bad yet. But in certain situations you have to be careful driving it. I've noticed that it really seems twitchy during windy conditions and on roads that need to be repaved and are uneven with pot holes and rough spots. I've read on some other threads that with the digital assist steering mine seems to be normal. I don't have play yet, but I will keep an eye on it. Should I take it to a dealer to be checked?
