Retrofitting stock headlamps ?

Recommended Posts

I've searched around and found some useful information but I'm still curious about how to part. I was wondering if I can install projectors in my non projector stock headlamps , and if I could would it be fairly simple ? Would I have to cut the housing for it to fit ? Also would it be simpler to buy some aftermarket headlight and install them on those ? I'm open to any ideas . Really want to this to come out good ..

Following. Ive heard the morimoto mini h1 (i believe I'm correct) are relatively easy.

Ive wanted to do this since my nnbs 07.

To open, you need to bake them, some say @300 for 15 min then start working opening them, if needed put them in the oven again for a couple of minutes and keep doing until open. As far as what you will put inside them that's up to you but check the retrofit source to see what parts they use.

The most popular would be the 7.0 mh1's and 4.0 mini d2s projectors. The d2s are really wide and have more of a bulb selection since d2s has factory hid.

Thanks for answering boss, Are the morimoto HIDs the best on the market ? Been looking around and I saw some leds 2017 that are marked 12,400 lumens they look good and not some cheap rip offs, I know everyone says HIDs are the way to go but what do you think.? Think led will catch up? The lifetime of 50,000 hours seems good but idk I'm new to this tech.

Thanks for answering boss, My old car was a Chrysler 300 and I installed some flashtech halos in the headlights, was my first time taking headlights apart, was nervous at first but we'll worth it. New to this retrofitting projectors though, I'll just need to do some research. I want the best Bulbs on the market

The Mori's are some of the best. You would be retrofitting an HID projector in, so you will need to run HID bulbs. There are vids on youtube showing LED bulbs inside projectors and they don't throw the light far enough. Even a LED in a factory reflector sucks. I had them in my fogs and it didn't throw light in the correct places. Just blinded oncoming traffic.

TRS sells the complete kits and it doesn't get much easier than that. As far as opening the headlight, it's kind of a pain with the permaseal. Just takes time and patience and you'll get it. I wish I could have retrofitted my lights when I had them open, but I didn't have any extra money at the time. Good luck!

Thanks for the input boss, I want to get it done . What do you think of me buying some spec D headlights and retrofitting those with H1 projectors. ? I saw on a forum someone said it would be hard to instal on stock non projector headlights, TRS sells a kit for spec D headlights. But I was wondering if I should install some switchback halos ? Just don't know the size I would need.

I'm not sure what spec d headlights are. The projector lights have a kit from fast headlights that literally bolt right in place of the stock projectors. The mh1 and mini d2s have threaded shafts for universal mounting, so they're ideal for us LT light guys. You can install switchback halos and do whatever your heart desires. The sky is the limit on retrofitting. Check out headlight junkies on FB also. Lots of helpful info on there and hidplanet.com too.

Agreed ! TRS has the best gear !

The MH1 are pretty good !! D2S are better bulbs in my opinion than the H1.

And the FX-R from TR-S are the best projectors period. I retro'd them into my f150 before I got my Denali.

See I don't have an LT boss, I just have regular no projector stock headlights right now on my truck. But I want to retrofit them with d2s or H1 ,but can I ? Will these stock non projector headlights work with d2s ? I've emailed the website and they haven't replied yet.
