Transmission issues? or maybe not....

I have a 98 tahoe 5.7 4wd and it's giving me a headache. Wife was driving it and it developed a loud groan in forward gear. pulled it over and discovered it has no reverse, just screams/whines while in the reverse position, and the noise gets louder/faster with RPM. Forward gear engages fine and does not slip, but has a gear whine/groaning noise only when moving. no noise at all in any forward gear unless the truck is actually moving. I'm stumped. I know the 4L60 has sun shell issues, but I'm not sure that it would give the forward gear symptoms i am getting. any ideas, folks? Thanks in advance.

It's time for a rebuild. Mine did something similar. I lost reverse and gears 3 and 4. I could drive in 1st and 2nd without issue or any abnormal noises.
