:banghead: One or two people with an issue does not make it a "time bomb", come one man, don't go fishing for false rumors to spread....

Shitty AFM, yeah because every truck has a problem and it doesn't return better mpg than without it...

One or two people? More like one or two million, as this has been a common problem since AFM came out in the '07 models. The service manager at my GM dealership has told me, that in his opinion, most AFM engines will have problems sooner or later, and he refuses to own one. How's that for confidence?!

And those of us who have had to delete AFM due to the severe oil usage problem have noticed no decrease in fuel mileage at all!

You're comparing two COMPLETELY DIFFERENT engines. There have been no systemic problems with these new Ecotec3 engines. Are there some issues? Yes. But nothing like the previous engines.

Mostly the same engine. Minor differences, such as DI (still with no factory catch cans) and increasing the oil capacity to 8 quarts so if it burns 3 quarts you still have 5. We are hearing some talk of oil usage, ticking/knocking, lifter and ring problems, and cam problems with the new generation as well, even though GM touts each new generation as "we've fixed all of the problems in these!"

Back in the day, people were yelling at me on here that there were no widespread problems with AFM and to shut up, as such talk was 'decreasing their trade values'. Fast forward and just one thread pinned to the top of the GMT900 section has 679 posts over 7+ years on basically what amounts to "why is my Silverado/Sierra engine screwed up?". And those are just the people who have posted on this forum--there are many forums on the 'net. Many owners who are having problems that don't even know how to post. Now we are seeing a whole new generation of owners who bought used GM vehicles coming on here and saying "why is my used Silverado/Sierra engine screwed up?" Because the prior owners got fed up and dumped them, taking a loss while dumping their problems on the next poor sucker.

Some owners don't care--they just 'hammer down' for a year or two and then buy a new one. Most people who work for a living can't afford to do that, with the new trucks costing $50-60-70+ thousand. I for one am not drinking the GM kool-aid anymore, and I was a life-long GM fan who could recite all of the famous RPOs like LS6 and ZL1 from memory. What my GM service manager said about AFM (that most AFM engines will have problems sooner or later) covers the 2014-2017 models as well, and he should know. It remains a poorly designed system executed with cheap parts with indifferent tolerances. I will keep pouring cases of oil in my Chevy truck and scrubbing the oil stain off my chrome back bumper above the tail pipe, until I can save enough money for a Ram or Ford.
