Bad Vibration

Purchased a new 2017 Silverado 2500HD Duramax LTZ Crew Cab Z71 (L5P) in March. Have logged 1600 miles on her and just returned from a road trip where highway speed was greater than my usual 60 mph. There is a vibration felt in the cab at speeds between 70-80 mph. Most noticeably at 72 mph. Took it into the dealership on Friday and they wanted to tell me the ride was rough because it was a big HD style truck. I didn't buy it and insisted on a second service call with another tech for a second opinion. Took it in today and left it, was called six hours later and upon arrival all that was done was another test drive and tires rotated. Again they wanted to dispel the problem as common to this size and style of truck. Again I insisted they keep it an put the Pico Scope on it and start troubleshooting to find the problem. If necessary they should call GM Tecnical and get some advise on what to do next. I informed the service manager that it's hard to believe a $70K truck should ride this rough. This is my first 2500 and first diesel...starting to regret trading up.

A Pico will only tell you if it's an electrical problem, not mechanical.

Sounds mechanical to me - probably an imbalance in the driveshaft. If it were wheels, you'd feel it around 40-45 MPH, then again at around 60-70. I can feel bad u-joints in the 40's too, but unless GM royally botched their vendor selection, your u-joints shouldn't be bad in any way, shape, or form at 1,600 miles.

Sometimes it's worth the hassle-free experience to just pay a driveline specialist to test drive and fix the problem, document it, then make GM pay for it, especially since they couldn't (or refused to) fix it the first time.

Well, I've owned several 2500's and they all ride like ass.....but it shouldn't vibrate consistently. It is stock? No lift or anything?

What I did with my 2015 was lowered the tire pressure to 55 in all tires and learned the BCM to that new pressure that way my light wasn't always on and it helped big time for me.

Thanks for the comment. Was going to ask if the would check the driveshaft balance.

Yes, it's stock...no mods.

Compared to what? Ford ? Ram?

My 2500 is as smooth as a baby's ass

Op the vibration is not common in a 2500 , hope you get it figured out

Read most of the threads in the forum over the last few days...very helpful. Will try to get them to check each one off until it's fixed...tire pressures, RFB wheels, body mounts, pinion angle, shaft balance, torque converter, change tires from Goodyear to BFG...

Compared to most anything! It's a work truck that everyone expects to ride like a Cadillac just because they cost a chunk of change and as far as cruising ride, they aren't bad. But get on a rough road and you definitely feel it. I wish our individual voice mattered in these situations, but GM is doing whatever they want. They make a product and at the end of the day it gets purchased. All manufacturers have their issues. Can anyone point out a perfect 2500+ platform? The vibration itself is an issue, but they ride rough, it's just how it is and it will always be that way.

Yeah, that's just the law of physics. When you get a suspension system that can handle 2-3x the payload of a half-ton, it's gonna ride rough.

I haven't found any brand 3/4 -1 ton truck that rode smooth, but these things are like Cadillacs compared to the old days, no doubt.
