capacitor?

here is a good one....since a capacitor is basically a battery in a way, holds power so it stays consistant...would one work on auxillary lighting?????????

It would work......as long as you hook a battery to the capacitor to keep it charged! Think of it this way, a typical resistor across the capacitor leads will dishcarge it in a matter of seconds. A light would do the same thing.

In car audio a capacitor is used to smooth out the surges that come from the large power draw of the amplifier which is typically caused by low frequencies (subs). This helps the cushion the blow to the main battery and then the cap. recharges ready for the next surge. Kinda like a battery reserve in those instances. But a capacitor alone isn't a battery.

I know its not a battery...I was thinking of puting one inline on the #4 wire that goes from my battery to the distribution box for the lights..but you never know if it would work...like when you are at idle and allof the stuff is on

Any capacitor will discharge very quickly into a lighting load. I'm not sure what you are trying to acheive. Are you saying that at idle, your lights are dim?

yes...in a way...the volts drop due to the power demand...I have tried a couple of alternators, which I still have but none give enough amps at idle or spin to fast at higher rpm

Maybe you should think about a red/yellow top Optima battery? There is a thread here that has all the info you need about them, check it out.
