Another AC question??

[2000 GMC]

We just a round trip back home to Texas from Virgina. During the trip I really didn't have to use my AC because when I put the vent switch on window defroster and the fan on hi and it would blow cold air, not cool. Should the air be this cold with just the defroster on?

When you turn on the defroster (defogger) it activates the A/C compressor to take moisture out of the air.
