on my 02 avalanche the passenger side of the dash is making a faint squeak. Has anyone else had the same problem? It's a minor annoyance and I can only hear it if the radio is off, but if someone knows what's squeaking it would be appreciated. I tried to have a passenger find it but they said that they really couldn't hear it. Maybe it's all in my head :puke:

You might want to check to see if the a pillar trim is rubbin against the dash piece. That could cause a squeak. Also, see if your dash may be rubbing on any of the duct work for the ac and defrost vents. GM had a TSB on the early model trucks because of that (for the drivers side though), and the fix was to put a piece of stick on felt type stuff to one surface, to keep the plastic from contacting and making noise. I tried that on a different area of my truck that was making a noise, and it worked well.

Where on the driver's side do you stick the felt? I have an early '02 (out of warranty) and have this problem occasionally.

I just pulled out the TSB (#99-08-49-005) and here's what it says.

Install a 3M Scotchmate Hook and Loop Fastening System, or equivalent, to the top side of the left defroster duct. Installing the loop side of this fastening system between the IP top pad and the defroster duct will act as an insulator to correct this condition.

If you pull your instrument cluster, you'll be able to see and reach up in there to do it. The TSB mentions removing the top of the dash to do it. :)

It says to use the loop side of velcro, but any kind of soft, stick on felt type material should work fine.

Thanks! I think I'll live with the occasional squeak. I'll probably introduce more squeaks trying to fix the problem.

I had the same type sqeak/rattle in my Silverado. It finally pissed me off one day that I slammed my hand down real hard on top of the dash where I found the squeak/rattle to be. My hand hurt like hell, but the truck never rattled again. Although, I did smack the dash real hard right over the passenger airbag, I don't know if that was the smartest thing to do. But surely it would take more than a hard hand slap to set of an airbag. Good luck with your rattle.
