Rented a 2017 Yukon xl

Went to San Diego this week and the rental car place gave us a Yukon XL 4x4 instead of Impala. Ok with me for sure! It's a very nice riding truck however when comparing to my 2015 Silverado I have a couple complaints. First I realize how much I like my 8 speed compared to the 6. I drove the Yukon in the mountains and felt the highway gear..( Must be a 3:08 but i havn't checked).

The 5.3 would be much better with more gear were my 6.2 is fine with any gear you put it in front of.

I have praise for the Yukons ride for sure and it handles the bigger bumps way better than I expected it to although it needs to sit a tad higher. So all in all itsa really nice ride but I'll take my Silverado any day.

I love my 6.2 crew cab Denali with the magna ride.

I recognize the theory of the 8 speed but I'm one that ended up with one that was severely constipated. I now have the 6 speed (5.3, 3.42) and really like it!

The Yukon XL and the Suburban are very nice vehicles and I would love to own one! The similarities between them and GM 1500 series pickups are becoming less with every model change. I would like to see gm offer a full sized SUV identical in performance and options as their work trim level pickups.

Yukon XL/Suburban/Tahoe/Avalanche has welded one piece body on a frame with coil springs and designed to haul people and a heavy load; GMC/Silverado has a bolt on bed on a frame with leaf springs and designed to haul rocks and heavier loads.

Yes the former rides much better but the latter is a helluva lot cheaper to buy. And all of them ride and handle like a piece of crap compared to an Impala which is designed specifically to haul people and light loads.
