Just had rebuilt 4l60e tranny put in 93 Suburban. Under engine codes I'm getting 59 : transmission fluid temp sensor open circuit..Does any one know where I should address this before talking to shop? Didn't have this code ever. Where is it? Have heard it's internal. See plug just above pan on drive side but don't remember old tranny. Thanks for any better understanding. New member

Thanks Starman. Yea still have one yeat warranty, but me being me I always try to be more knowledgeable than the shop if possible just to not get bamboozeled. I have no check engine light on but when reading it I get the 12 and then 59. Never had that 59. Looks like a 5/16" plug(or metric) driver side a few inches above pan and toward front of pan. Code is open circuit. Is this something I should live with? Think I need to know what that fluid is doing after running thru cooler Appreciate it.

Here is some diagrams to help you understand what's going on. Chances are the temp sensor got damaged while doing the rebuild. That sensor is within the trans pan, tucked up in the valve body area.

The #1 location on the internal trans harness is where the temp sensor is located.

Anyone know for sure if 295/65R20 will fit on stock Sierra AT4 HD? Nitto's site says that measure 35.12x11.77. Stock tires measure 34.09x10.98. Seems like there'd be enough room but don't want to chance them rubbing. Anyone have same size on here??

    • I'm surprised nobody seems to offer a solution like the start/stop device I put in my new truck. Remembers my setting when shutdown. And while it still starts up in start/stop, it stores/evaluates what mode it was in when shut down and will change it whithin a second or 2 of startup. It'd be nice to have something like that for the DRLs.
    • 2015 Sierra 1500 here. Leaks from the sunroof to front driver side and soaks carpet. How do I fix this? Thanks!
    • I will be doing that for sure, but I need to solve who has/ where I can find a bidirectional scan tool that will support OBD 1.5. I'm kicking myself because I ebay'ed a Snap On MT2500 that I didn't think I'd ever need anymore. D'oh!! I'd rather not buy another, so I'll contact a few local shops to see if they have one and how much they'd want to do the procedure. I'd rather have the ability to do it myself... I wish there was a modern tool that could do it all, but I'd have no idea what to buy.   The theory with the pulled timing is that it mimics a rich condition. The delayed spark causes incomplete burn and the O2 sensor picks up low oxygen levels. That's interpreted as a rich condition so the PCM pulls fuel and that shows up in the deeply negative fuel trims.

Question: What was in the the groom’s pants pocket??? Answer below ↓ M&Ms of course! They melt in your mouth, not in your hand. What on earth were you thinking?
    • There's a bunch of tea leaves that you've read, but in any case the delayed timing is unusual. Not sure how that relates to the rich at idle vs. 'normal' while driving.   If you're in this deep, might be worth investigating, and re-learning the sensor. What have you got to lose? Plus, it properly fixes the timing cover leak.
