Upper Control Arm Concern

Recommended Posts

Posted

Been a while since I replaced a control arm. Upper control arm (passenger side) was getting bad, so I decided to replace all 4 of the originals with Moog Problem Solvers.

Starting with the passenger side, installed the knuckle onto the new lower arm, and lightly tightened the lower ball joint with a ratchet. Knuckle/wheel hub assembly pivots on lower ball joint. Everything fine, so far.

Dropped the new upper control arm into the knuckle, and lightly tightened the upper ball joint with a ratchet. Knuckle/wheel hub assembly no longer pivots. Loosened the upper ball joint, and the knuckle pivots on the lower ball joint, again.

Realize that the knuckle/hub assembly isn't much to hold on to, but I was expecting to be able to move it fairly easily - especially since the tie rod end hasn't been installed, yet.

Not sure what's wrong. Should there be this much resistance with new ball joints? Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for your help!
