I bought a couple of these to protect my new fob.  These covers fit well.

I got my new fob today and did not end up getting the chrome trimmed version.  The service adviser wasn't willing to upgrade as it was a warranty replacement.   The good news is I don't have a problem using the cover I previously purchased!

I bought a silicone cover on Amazon to cover my peeling chrome fob. It looked terrible after 50,000 miles of use. The cover is awesome and is holding up well.

I also bought the black cover from Amazon.  I didn't really need to get a new fob and then cover it right away,  but I use my warranty when things fail.  There is no reason these fobs should wear so quickly.  GM chose a different  key fob design from their previous generation of trucks and they are not as durable.  They are fine if you tuck your keys away in a purse as my wife does but when it is constantly in and out of your pocket with all of the other crap, the fob needs to be durable.  These silicone covers add a nice layer of protection and look good.  They are also available in various colours for those that care about such details!

They make a key fob cover that is made of silicon rubber. You can slip it on the fob and it protects the fob against damage from dropping it and stops the noise the key makes when it is bangining against the steering column.

 

Edit: I had this thread open on my phone since yesterday and see the last two posters added exactly what was talking about.
