Fuse problem...

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I recently purchased a used power window/lock wiring and harness set for my perviously un-powered 93 Chevy truck. I hooked up all the wiring to make sure everything works and when the key was turned, nothing happened with the switches

I'm pretty sure this is because my truck does not have a fuse for these devices because there was no reason for GM to put it in before. If anyone knows the name of the fuse slot that controlls power locks and windows in an 88-93 fullsize I would greatly appreciate it if you could tell me.

I've also just noticed that my fuse panel lacks the prongs for slots in the fuse box that do not currently have a fuse in them, including of course, some slots which are labeled. Is there a way of easily recifying/bypassing this?

Thanks for your time!

As you have already noticed chevy didn't bother to wire the relay or fuse boxes for accesories the trucks were not originally equipped with. Off of the harness for the power window/locks you will have 3 wires. One is for constant power, one for acc. power, and one for a ground. All you need to do is find a place to tap each of these wires in. You may have to do a little searching with a test light, but I think I found a prong on the relay center for them on a 89 Cheyenne. Make sure whatever circuit you tap into can handle the extra load. If you want to you can put both power wires on constant, then your windows will work with the key in amy position.

At work today I looked at the posistioning of the 3 wires on a 454SS and a '94 Suburban. Both were identical in thier posistioning of the wires. I set my truck up the same way this afternoon but unlike the others I did not get a response from either the power window or lock switches. I will re-double check tommarow but as you can see It has left me just a little confused!

If it would be at all possible to get pictures of the relay center from the Cheyenne with those wires it would be a great help!

Well, that's what I was trying to say. I just didn't say it right. You won't be able to just plug it into the relay center, you will have to find somewhere to tap into. It has been a couple of years since I did that conversion and I can't remember where I tapped into. Worked great though and never had any problems. The ground will be easy, you can just attach a spade and ground it yourself. For the other 2, get your testlight and probe the existing prongs on the realy center. Try each one with the key at different positions. You will have to cut the plugs off the wires and put terminals on that will slide over the prongs on the relay center.
