Alignment Necessary?

Hello All,

Before I ask my question, I want to give some background.

I plan on installing the RC 2.5' lift/level on my 2017 Sierra ATX.  With that said, I will be installing some larger tires afterwards. Waiting for confirmation on the largest size possible on factory wheels. My plan is moving from Duratrac 265/65R18 to 285/75R18.



I know its big, but with spacers I believe it will work.
After installation of the RC level, I know I will need an alignment.

Here's the Question:
Should I wait until I'm ready for new tires to do the whole thing, or can I do them separately? 
Worded another way:
Will I need to get a separate alignment when jumping in tire size that much?

first 35s will fit with 2.5 lift with factoty wheels.....if u put spacers they will rub ALOT and will have to do cutting of carpet at least......the closer u stay to factory wheels offset and depth the bigger the tire u can fit...i have 36" tires on 2.5 lift and had to cut some metal corner inside of wheel well and sum carpet and minor rubbing when doing full uturns.... the factory wheels are X9 and +35 offset.....i put 26x10 +30 offset and 315/40r26

where did you have to cut metal specifically?
Did you do it all in one shot or lift and then wheels? Alignment?

You will need alignment, do it afterward.
I think largest comfortable tire size with 2.5" lift is 275/65, requires only ziptying the carpet liner to the frame for clearance.

did it all in one shot.......had to cut carpet about 2 hand size and hand size metal behind carpet only on inside corner were firewall is but mostly bent it back with air hammer

I strongly suggest you spend  more time reading some of the many threads on tire size, leveling, lifts, offsets, spacers etc.  My original plans for my truck sounded very similar to yours.  Your plan reflects a desire to get the maximum  height without over stressing stock suspension components or facing the high cost of a proper lift.  I have kept up with a lot of the information provided by our knowledgeable members and I would suggest either dropping the aspect ratio of your tire or going with a proper lift.  You can achieve most the enhanced look you want without needing to cut out space for your tires.

I strongly suggest you spend  more time reading some of the many threads on tire size, leveling, lifts, offsets, spacers etc.  My original plans for my truck sounded very similar to yours.  Your plan reflects a desire to get the maximum  height without over stressing stock suspension components or facing the high cost of a proper lift.  I have kept up with a lot of the information provided by our knowledgeable members and I would suggest either dropping the aspect ratio of your tire or going with a proper lift.  You can achieve most the enhanced look you want without needing to cut out space for your tires.

I have been searching high and low. There is almost too much information from too many people that sends you in about every direction possible.
I do not want to cut anything. The most I will do is remove the air dam. Unless someone convinces me otherwise I think I’m just going to stick to the 285/65r18 like RC suggests

Great decision, imo.  I actually decided on a MotoFab 1.5" level and 285/70/17 on stock rims.  The level kit is still in the box and waiting for my next set of tires.  I was going to have it installed with my current stock sized 255's  but thought that might not be a good look!  I might add that I have a bit of weight in the back with my canopy and tool box.  A 2.25 or 2.5  level would make me look nose high.

Hes got 285/75R18 on a 2.25 level.

I think this looks really good!  I would suggest you pm ozkermoe_z71 and see if tying back the liner resolved all rubbing issues. No rubbing at slow speeds on flat pavement may not guarantee no rub in harsher conditions.  A more conservative size will give peace of mind, be easier on your truck,  and get you to the same places.  The trade-off is strictly cosmetic and will only be noticed by you.  Of course, you are the one that needs to be happy!
