When Am I In V4 Mode?

I got a 2015 base model sierra with ecotec 5.3l engine.  Im just curious when this thing goes into 4 cylinder mode?  Im on the fuel economy screen hoping theres a v4 symbol that lights up but nothing.  Drove at 100km/h on a flat highway with no load and nothing. And the fuel economy never changes just says 15L per 100km always.  Should that be live and changing all the time?  Or are these features the base model doesnt have?

Changes all the time. It shuts down the fuel to those cylinders. Also oil at the lifters. There are many opinions about it but it doesn't save much gas on a stock tune at least. Performance trucks remove it do to the delay to switch, fuel pressure, and even back pressure in exhaust.

Don't know if the base truck has the indicator. It is on a couple of the screens that can be switched through on the trucks with steering wheel controls. On my 15, I only know its in the v8 or v4 mode from the indicator, I can't feel any difference at all.

Does it switch even in the city?  Like 40 to 60km/h?  I feel the engine being weak sometimes.  Like i press the pedal and its slow to react.  Yet sometimes it feels pretty damn good.  Especially with 3.08 gears.

Not a easy question to answer. It switches based on engine load. But as it also has torque management and 6 to 8 speeds, it can be down shifting to get back to power. 3.08 is a low gear ratio vs 3.73 Or 4.11 however the extra gears make up for this.
It is amazing how much a retune can do on these trucks. You can see some of this in manual shift mode.

The base DIC doesn't have a V4 indicator. I know I'm in V4 when the truck starts shuddering oh so slightly. My ScanGauge II shows instant MPG, and there's barely an increase with V4.
