traction control

On a 2014 GMC with the 5.3L, I turned the traction control off and the truck seemed like it had more power.

Anyone experienced this?

Been talked about before. Yes it does feel that way. Don’t know why, just does. Maybe something to do with torque management in the ECM software.

Yep, torque management is pretty harsh on the stock tune. The way it works, without going too far into this topic, is you have multiple computations making torque requests and due to a logic tree one will always end up with priority over the rest, the one with priority is what controls the power, normal operation the axle torque table will be calling for torque based on throttle input, when your truck shifts transmission torque request takes over and dials it back until the shift is over which it then reverts back to the axle torque control. If traction control thinks there is slip it takes over and dials back the torque.

Effectively when you disable traction control you're removing one of the more aggressive torque controllers from the logic tree.

This, of course, is the short and nasty explanation and why a lot of the "experts" who have been "tuning" GM engines for over a decade can't make decent power on the new setups.

Same engine still, Same power still, less hoops to go through to get there, and it will have a different feel. it will feel even better without the AFM.
