2015 3500HD Denali Sliding Window Issue

I recently picked up a 2015 GMC 3500HD Denali and had the rear window break while letting the truck warm up. I started the truck via the remote start, which started the front and rear defroster. While sitting in the truck waiting for it to warm up, I could smell something burning plus hear a crackling/frying noise coming from the back. When I opened the rear passenger side door, I noticed smoke coming from the bottom corner of the sliding window portion of the window. I shut off the rear defroster, and got back in the drivers seat. At that point I heard the rear window break. Has anyone had this happen? Is it safe to assume the wiring harness is bad that goes to the defroster or could it be the defroster itself?

This is one of several threads on this seems to be coming a more common problem.

If your truck is out of warranty I would still hit up the dealer & then GM to see if they will at least help if not pay for a replacement. Also some insurance policies have glass protection be worth checking with your agent.

From what I’ve read GM/dealers don’t seem to think it’s defrost related. Guess time will tell.

My moms Honda SUV had the rear glass shatter as she was backing up in her driveway several years ago on a warm fall day (no defrost on). The glass place that replaced it said they do several rear/side pieces of glass (fixed glass) every week all kinds of makes and models. This is in a metro area of 300,000. Seems to be luck of the draw to me?

I appreciate the response. I have a call into GM to see if they will do anything to help with this. Currently have a claim number and waiting for someone from the claims department to call me. Don't know if that means anything or not but fingers are crossed.
