2015 5.3 Engine Failure

I'm looking for a little information in regards to engine issues involving the 5.3 liter V8. Previously at approximately 25k miles the motor failed resulting in bent rods, broken lifters etc. Recently at approx. 40k the motor had failed again going into "limp mode" along with a really rough idle, engine check light and traction control light flashing. It has been in the shop for 3 days with their first thought being an injector or bad plug. Received a call stating that that was not the issue and they need to dive deeper into this. I'm curious if anyone has had issues similar to this and what they might have been. Also when on the phone with the GM rep, without stating it outright I was told that even in the first occasion that with the bad lifters and rods etc... they were only authorized to replace what failed and not to touch what hasn't failed "yet". Its an uneasy feeling and a deep concern with my commute being primarily from house to house 420 miles apart through high elevations and snow in the winter that I am going to break down again and be stranded in the elements because of a partial fix.

 

Note - All services performed were on time and are up to date only through a GM dealership.
