I have a tonneau cover.   Seal the tailgate, you can carry stuff in the bed without getting wet or dirty,

So I bought a new bushing and went to install it. Turn out I figured out why it keeps breaking and had to tell the dealer. The part the bushing goes onto is bent. When I installed the new bushing it immediately popped and broke once I tried to install it in the hinge. The one side of the bushing mount is bent for some unknown reason. I’m thinking the dealership did this one of the four times they replaced this piece under warranty. They are checking into whether that mount is sold separately and are supposed to call me back. It better be covered by the bumper to bumper (factory style) extended warranty I purchased from them or there is going to be fire works. I’ll keep everyone posted on the outcome.

So what happened?

The mount was bent and when I pointed it out to them and explained this is why it keeps breaking they agreed. They fixed the mount because it’s not sold separately. Once it was fixed and a new bushing installed, there have been no more issues.

I have a 2016 and mine just broke. 36k miles, so I have to pay for a new one. This many complaints, sounds like it should be a recall issue. Is this what we get for buying "American"?

I had a Nissan Titan for 10 years and my tailgate springs never broke or became weaker.

I have had my Chevrolet 2018 2500HD for 2 years. It only has 14,000 miles so I don’t use it much, only for towing my camper. I have had my bushing replaced 3 times now. We shall see how long this one lasts.

Mines been repaired at least 6x... worthless junk. If I use tailgate often for hauling wood and such...3 or 4 weeks it's broken again. Dealership has replaced all kinds of parts...soon as the plastic bushing part on passenger side breaks....slam goes the tailgate again. Junk! Not worth the trip to dealership for me anymore

Watch my YouTube video. Show this part to the dealer. It’s what fixed my issue.

dealership now will not give me a bushing to install myself....nope its so complicated and time consuming to install, must be performed by "certified" mechanic! Obviously the dealership is cashing in on a 10second repair?

Not to mention that "certified" mechanics have already replaced it many times. I will put an aftemarket device  on it  before pay 41 bucks for that flimsy bushing, Will be calling cooperate soon

Dealership acts as if its a very rare issue.....yeah OK. My truck is 2018 with 20k miles, apparently dummy me does not open tailgate properly and  forbid the use of bed for actually hauling firewood and such....thats abuse....grocery bags only? once a week at the most on opening tailgate, no coolers or sitting on tailgate....abuse?

Isn’t it included in the b-b warranty?? I’d find a different dealer and take it to them. Mine was replaced 5 times before the issue was fixed. It was only fixed after I showed them what was wrong. Show them the video posted above along with the views. That would hopefully be enough to get them to cover it and fix the actual issue.

It's included...just the idea have to make a 45min drive a dealer, wait on truck. Inconvenience for repair that not lasting. Poor design

Again, I’d bet money the issue is the part the plastic piece goes on. A simple fix the dealer can do in no time should fix your issue.
