I found a job!!

But it's a flat rate shop which only pays by the car. Wondering if any of you have any experience with this, good, bad, or just "stay the hell away from that".

I'm starting at $10 an hour and if everything works out I get bumped to $12 in 2 weeks time.

Oh, it's for a Dodge Toyota dealership

I, too, am a flat rate tech at a Honda Dealer. The first few weeks are going to be the hardest for you. You have to learn the product, as well as getting the jobs completed in a timely manner, and also gathing the proper tools.

I have been with this dealer for 5 months now. It has been paying of, as I have been averaging right around 50 hrs per week. Just last week I had 62 hrs ( I will have grossed over $600 this past week). So I have been lucky so far.

As long as the dealer has the work available, I don't see why you shouldn't be able to make a decent living. Since I have moved from another dealer with very little work to my current place of employment, I have been able to buy a new (and well needed) truck, and currently we are finalizing getting a new house. If I would have stayed at the other dealer, I'd still be stuck in my current small 2 bedroom house driving a 91 escort. So all in all, its been a nice blessing.
