Vibration

I have been experiencing a vibration that comes and goes once I accelerate to highway speeds 60 to 75. I slow down once I reach 75 to 65. I drive on the left or right lane to no avail. I replaced my wheels with similar gm specs. Had my truck realigned tires rebalance numerous times.

But the dealership can never replicate the problem.

It did it with the previous wheels and it still does it with the new ones.

One of the guys on this forum had his service advisor look into this and found out that he needed some shims.

Another had the same problem and his service advisor ordered a driveshaft.

There are several TSB's on this problem but I can't seem to get anything done.

We drive this vehicles every day and I know that a little vibration is normal but when it shakes your whole truck, there's a problem. This is not an everyday occurrence there are many days the truck drives ok, but when it gets out of sync, oh boy that's another way of describing it when everything is in sync I love driving my truck but when if gets out of dync. I just want to burn it down.

I am not trying to get anyone in trouble but believe what your customers tell you.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

All of this was done last year, I just gave up.

Some return on our mandated investment after the bailout, aye? :fume: Quality control & customer service are things of the past, unfortunately.

I'd be checking universal joints first. They could be just starting to dry up and fail. Hub bearings could also cause this, but you'd hear the hum at lower speeds, & feel some roughness while under way, too. Unload the driveline ( put chock blocks out, put truck in neutral, and let it roll to the chocks, so there is zero tension on the driveshaft. Grab the driveshaft at each u-joint one at a time, and check for any play in the joint - try it in every direction. Should not feel even the slightest bit of movement. Keep in mind that when checking the front u-joint, the yoke may move a little inside the tailshaft of the transfer case or tranny.

How many miles on the truck?

20 years ago, I'd have said, "No way the u-joints could be bad at that low of mileage". Today, it's a distinct possibility that they ARE bad.

Worth a check at least - it's quick and easy.
