TPMS problem?

Recommended Posts

I have a 2011 Silverado 1500 extended cab that I'm wanting to put Load Range E tires on. My tire data plate reads 35psi. These new tires have a max of 80psi, although I'll probably run them at 65 or so. Will this higher pressure set off my TPMS? If so, is it possible to reprogram it? My tire guy thinks it won't be a problem, but I'm looking for a second opinion before I shell out the money for the tires. Any opinions? Thanks in advance.

I run 10 plys, and I tried several pressures between 30 and 70 psi. I think 44 psi is the way to go. The dealer should be able to answer the TPMS questions.

I agree 100% . On a half ton truck I wouldn't go over 50 unless you have an over weight load, and then I would would put them back at 44 for maximum tread life. If you dont see off road much, I would go with the Michelin atx. They are not cheap, but last, ride very well, and help with fuel economy.

I'm mostly concerned about the annoying yellow light being on. I'm not the only one to ever do this, I'm sure. Does the TPMS go out on high pressure, or just low pressure?

Hmm. Now that ain't a bad idea. I could probably just do one tire. I wouldn't want to drive it far, but I probably wouldn't have to. Good idea.

Just checking in with tire results. The TPMS lit up as soon as the tire guy started the truck with the new tires at 45psi. He drove it a couple of miles and it didn't go away. Hooked his Tech thing up to it and says he reprogrammed the TPMS. I've been driving it all week with no issues. So the system can be reprogrammed. This thing rides like a truck now, and I feel much better about pulling the camper with it.

Most tuners/programmers can do this function as well.  My Hypertech Max Energy 2.0 power programmer lets you set what tire size you are running and set whatever TPMS threshold you want, or you can turn off the TPMS warning entirely if you want.
