Jasper 350

My sister drives a 89 suburban, and she drove the original engine without putting oil in it for a year.....so needless to say she blew it, so she got a rebuilt jasper 350 put in......well now she just bought an H2.....yeah yeah yeah I'm ashamed to be related to her, but the good news is she is giving me the new engine out of the surburban to put into my blazer....so I am going from an old 305 to the rebuilt 350....anyone know how much HP the rebuilt jasper puts out?? I looked on the jasper website but I couldn't find any specs. How are those engines anyway? I'm not really concerned about it because I have had it with the 305 so anything will be an upgrade, but how well will the 350 go into the truck? I think that it may be fuel injected, the blazer now is a carb...what am I gonna have to do to get it to work in there.....I'm gonna have it installed, but I am just curious on how much the switch should cost me, in extra parts by going to FI from carb???

The 89' suburban used a TBI 350. Its fuel injected. It'll be a direct swap for your old motor, but you'll have to take the computer, wiring harnesses, and 02 sensors off the new engine to install it in your truck. You'll also need an in-tank fuel pump since its fuel injected. Your carb 350 has a mechanical fuel pump mounted on the front passenger's side of the engine where a TBI 350 will have a block-off plate, so you'll have to mount a fuel pump in your fuel tank. You'll also want to take the throttle linkage, and if it has cruise control, the cruise control cable and hardware.

Your other option is to take out the rebuilt 350 if you want to use it, and swap it out inplace of the 305 you have to make a carb 350. Then just install a bigger carb and mechanical fuel pump and go. The only thing you'll have to watch out for is what type of rear main seal you have (for swapping oil pans). A lot of TBI 350's have a 2-piece rear main seal, where some of the older ones have a 1-piece.

It should be a pretty straight forward swap either way you go. Tons of guys have installed TBI 350's inplace of carbed small blocks over the years. Lots of offroad Jeep guys install TBI 350's as well. Maybe you can find some info on what exactly you need to do the swap online.
